As the World marks World Blood Day tomorrow, Mkombozi Bank Plc staff yesterday embarked on a blood donation campaign to recognize the support they received from the society and give back to it.
The launch of the campaign took place at Msimbazi Centre in Dar es Salaam in collaboration with the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) academic center, Mloganzila campus.
Speaking during the event, the Mkombozi Bank Managing Director, George Sumbusho said it was part of the back to the community as well as cherish the support they receive from the society.
“Shortage of blood is still a big problem in Tanzania, therefore to us as one of the leading banks, we have come out to donate blood and also sensitize other Tanzanians to do the same,” he said.
He said blood which is kept by the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has helped in saving hundreds of the patients in need especially during accidents, maternity cases, and operations.
“We have also done this after realizing that there are some rare blood hence if we develop a habit of donating blood regularly, NBTS will have sufficient blood in its bank hence saving more lives,” he said.
He applauded other Tanzanians who turned up for the donation exercise that was organized by his bank in collaboration with experts from Mlozangila Hospital and appealed to them to make this a regular exercise so they can save more lives.
The World Blood Donor Day is marked on June 14 every year in different parts of the world.
In his remarks, Dr. Nyamahanga who is the Head of Blood Transfusion services at Mloganzila campus of MUHAS said the state blood in the country was worrying adding that there was a need for more sensitization campaigns on the matter.
Mkombozi Commercial Bank Plc (MKCB) was found in 2009 by Roman Catholic Church and its institutions as a local initiative to support the emerging small medium and large Tanzanian businesses for the provision of financial services.
